In
order to qualify for Meals on Wheels home-delivered meals, recipients
must:
-
Be
homebound, which is a person described as "normally unable to leave
the home, or in leaving the home, it requires considerable and taxing
effort by the individual which may require assistance; absences
of the individual from the home are infrequent or of a relatively short
duration or attributable to the need to receive medical treatment";
and
-
Be
unable to prepare some or all of his/her own meals due to restrictive
physical or mental conditions or frailty, and person is at risk without
nutritional support services; and
-
Have
no one else in the home with them during the day who can prepare the
person's meals, except in the case where respite support may
be provided; and
-
Make
a good faith effort to support the program by making a donation of the
cost of the meals (unit cost) or as much as is feasible toward that
cost. Family members or others will be encouraged to contribute on behalf
of a recipients meal service if the recipient cannot cover the
costs.
