Building a Better Tomorrow: More Than Just Meals

At Meals on Wheels of Metro Tulsa, we're dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for our clients. News On 6's MaKayla Glenn recently highlighted our impactful work, showcasing how we provide much more than just meals.

Our team and dedicated volunteers recently undertook a transformative home renovation for one of our clients. We built a ramp for a wheelchair-bound individual who previously required assistance to enter and exit her home.

Our mission is to deliver nutritious meals, conduct safety checks, and offer friendly, compassionate contact to the elderly and those who are disabled and homebound. We proudly uphold the motto "More than a Meal," a principle exemplified through our "Home Safety Program."

This vital program addresses in-home safety issues and performs essential renovations such as changing light bulbs, adding safety bars to bathrooms, and, in this case, constructing a ramp.

Project Manager Sophie Goldstein emphasized the significant impact of these improvements, particularly for our client who recently received a new mechanical wheelchair. “She’s not been able to really use it outside the house because she doesn’t have a ramp, and those things are heavy. So, getting a ramp is really an essential component to her being able to use this new wheelchair, which is really going to increase her mobility and her ability to participate in her community," Goldstein explained.

We are always looking for volunteers to assist with ramp builds and other home safety tasks. If you’re interested in making a difference in the lives of those in need, we encourage you to join us.
